My Guilty Pleasures!

I saw this first on vmac&cheese, then on Things That Sparkle, and most recently on Breakfast at Toast. I'm convinced that this is such a fun post to share my guilty pleasures/addictions with you all! So here goes...

1. Not a day goes by where I don't indulge in a small piece of chocolate. Dark chocolate to be precise.

2. Shopping. I think I can be officially called a shopaholic. I shop online more than anyone I know and tell myself that I find better deals this way so I can excuse my addiction... kinda. Thank goodness for CouponSherpa.com and all their great promo codes!
3. I love Mexican food. Seriously, love it. Guacamole might be my favorite dish ever and I'm pretty sure I would have a side of it with every meal if given the chance.

4. Laying on the couch and watching reruns of NCIS and Without a Trace. I know what you're thinking, but I can't help it - I just love that whole detective chasing bad guys thing and I'm not ashamed to admit it!
5. I love eating out. NYC has SO many great restaurants that it's hard to want to cook. And dining out is so much fun when it's with friends or on a little romantic date night with K.
6. One word. Facebook.
7. Writing lists. I write a to do list for everything - packing, work, groceries, wish lists for shopping. Everything and anything.

8. Makeup. I love buying makeup and then going home to browse through my makeup bag, toss out what I don't like anymore, and try on my new finds. Needless to say, I have a very large makeup bag.

9. Football. I'm hooked. K and his family are huge Ravens fans and so the love for all things Ravens was passed on to me. K and I watch football every single Sunday during the season and love it. Never thought I would, but yes, I really, really love it. And I belong to a fantasy team!

10. Manicures. I get a manicure every week. It's my way of pampering myself for less than $10.
11. Bread. Any kind of bread - I don't discriminate when it comes to carbs. I've been on a diet of no bread for a few weeks now trying to get ready for the wedding and it's killimg me.

12. Email. I'm not a big fan of talking on the phone so email, in my opinion, is the best invention ever. I can keep in touch with tons of people without having to pick up the phone.
13. WordWarp. I steal K's iphone when he's home so I can play this little word puzzle game. It's so so addictive and I can get very competitive!
14. Pictures. I take my camera everywhere and take pictures of everything (even plates of food). Expect this trend to get even worse now that I have a fancy camera!

15. Lattes. I get one every morning.

16. Traveling. I love traveling, but hate flying. I know, strange. I dream of going back to Europe (Sevilla, Spain to be exact) where I lived for 7 months while studying abroad. Turkey, Croatia, Greece, Argentina, and many other far and away countries are also on my list of places I must visit. Some day, some day.
17. Reading blogs. I have my favorite 20-25 blogs that I read daily and this fun reading makes for the perfect start to my work days.
18. Thinking of millions of options to redecorate our NYC apartment. I know it's a rental, but yet I want it to look pretty and well put together.

19. Us Weekly and People. I'm not subscribed, but every single time I'm in line at the grocery store to pay I can't help but pick up the latest two editions and sit on the couch for hours reading about celebrity gossip.
20. Buying a new handbag. Definitely another addiction/obsession. I will do research for weeks before actually going out and buying it, but I buy a new one every 6-7 months. I have a bag rotation problem. And the next one in line is a Reed Krakoff.

What are your top 20 guilty pleasures?

I have to give an enormous thank you to my web designer, Danielle Moss. She is a talented graphic designer/artist and mastermind behind Breakfast at Toast. Bedroom Inspiration

Our bedroom is currently a complete disaster. Not in a messy way, but in a everything was purchased without much thought, no real design aesthetic, or design plan used. And one fine day, browsing through thousands of inspiration images, I decided this needed to change A-S-A-P. Enter Alex. Alex is the mastermind behind the Chicago based design and fashion blog, Things That Sparkle. Her design aesthetic is clean and bright and that is exactly what I need in our first floor, one bedroom, New York City, six window, less than 1,000 sq ft apartment. Alex made the process a breeze (thankfully!) I sent her some inspiration images, my budget, and what my ideas were for the space and before I knew it she had sent me an amazing design board filled with beautiful items and links to each and every one of them. The best part is that she was able to find a lot of these items at the stores where we are registered! Sooooo, hopefully (keep your fingers crossed!) we can get some of the items as wedding presents.

Anyway, back to the inspiration images and what Alex put together for me...

I'm drawn towards very simple, light, and breezy rooms. I wanted ours to look bright even though we only have three windows and they are always closed because we live on a first floor (always closed = little to no natural light.)
Love the simple art.

Creams, light grays, whites, and blush colors are my favorites.

The mixing of different patterns, gold accents, and mirrors were also something I wanted to incorporate.

Thanks Alex!
I'm absolutely in love with the design board that Alex has put together for us and can't wait to show you all the finished product. There are some items she added that I'm keeping secret until I reveal the new bedroom so stay tuned!

Where do you find inspiration for decorating your home?

Brown Or Black? That Is The Question.

I'm torn. I went shopping this past Saturday and found the most comfortable tall boots EVER. They're Cole Haan and have that Nike Air technology that makes the shoe fit like a glove... literally. So these boots come in brown and black, but I can't decide which I like/need more. I would wear them a ton in either color - I really would. I like that wool detail on the brown style, but the suede makes the black one look more elegant for a night out in the town. Aaaaaah, decisions decisions!

Leather Accents

Leather is everywhere this season and I love it. A leather jacket can pull an outfit together in an instant and leather accents can complement and complete any look. Leather accents can also save you some cash since you're not investing on an all-leather look. Just don't be shy! Feel free to release your inner biker girl this season! Olivia Palermo does it really well...

And if you don't want to spend a fortune, feel free to wear faux leather. It looks just like real leather when it's the right quality.

Weekend Recap and A Little Shopping

This weekend was extremely relaxing. K was at a bachelor party so I was home alone and with a lot of girl time in my hands. I stayed in on Friday watching Bridesmaids (I cried laughing so hard!) and ordered in some delish sushi, had brunch at Mercer Kitchen with C on Saturday, went shopping in SoHo for a few things for our honeymoon (wow, I spent some cash... eek), had a Mexican fiesta at V's in the UES, and watched football all day Sunday.

Saturday brunch mimosas at Mercer Kitchen
Cilantro Lime Rice seen here - aaaamazing recipe from Lara
Ladies night at V's

But going back to the shopping...... all I have to say is Madewell, Nicole Miller, Zara and J.Crew. Here are  some of the items I purchased (I love shopping!)
Madewell Sweaterknit Hoodie - so so comfy and great for the long flights we have ahead of us!
The Bed Stu Aunt Bettie Boat Shoe - these are incredibly comfortable and will be great for all the walking we'll be doing during our honeymoon (Thailand, Cambodia, and Hong Kong!)
J.Crew Darlington Satchel - the perfect sized bag for our honeymoon... fits absolutely everything and weighs nothing!
Alexa Chung for Madewell Patrice Top - sexy, sexy, sexy.
Madewell V Neck Pocket Tee - I got a few of these in different colors to pair with shorts. It'll be very warm over there!

It was a great weekend, but I'm ready for K to come home. And now back to work with a very busy week ahead! Have a great start to your weeks!

A Sense of Fall

Can you feel it in the air? I think you absolutely can. The air is crisp, there are pumpkins in every store window, I'm feeling an urge to bake a homemade apple pie, scarfs are coming out of their summer hiding, and the chunky sweaters are being dry cleaned. Yep, Fall has officially arrived and I'm loving it!

Brilliant! Pumpkin pie in a jar!

Who doesn't love a delish pumpkin spiced latte?!

Weeknight Meals from Lara of Simply Irresistible

I want to introduce you all to Lara of the fabulous Simply Irresistible blog. Lara has a super stylish life in Chicago and likes to blog about fashion, food, and anything and everything in between. She is definitely my go-to lady for amazing, quick, and delish recipes so I asked her to stop over FT today to share with us an easy weeknight recipe. Wait till you see what she's come up with...

I'm so excited to be here on Fashion Truffles sharing some amazing recipes and cooking tips. I blog on Simply Irresistible about food, fashion, decor and lots more. I work at an advertising agency from nine - five (sometimes much past five), which makes weeknight cooking a bit of a challenge. Between finding the time to shop for the ingredients and then actually cooking, making a meal of any kind on a weeknight can seem like a daunting task.

There are three basic rules I follow when it comes to weeknight
cooking to make it possible and enjoyable.
1. Short ingredient lists - I like to be able to count the ingredients
on my hands... preferably one hand (I don't count what I already have
in my cabinets). If the recipe has more ingredients than this, I'm not
making it.
2. Short cooking time - If something needs to bake in the oven for
more than 1/2 hour, it's not for a weeknight. I'm usually already
starving by the time I make it home (and I get cranky when I'm
3. Let the grocery store help you - If something is
already chopped, shredded or seasoned in a way that's going to save
you time without detracting from the flavor, go for that

Here are two recipes I made this week that were perfect for an after work night. The entire meal took me one hour to put together.

I used this recipe, with only a few amendments. I used a bag of Mexican shredded cheese instead of the extra sharp white cheddar and monterey jack cheese's (virtually the same thing and a perfect example of rule #3). I also used flour tortillas in place of the corn tortillas because I prefer the taste and texture.

{ready for round one in the oven}
{yummy chicken filling with HOMEMADE sauce}
So after topping these bad boys with the remaining enchilada sauce and some cheese, I threw them back in the oven (not literally), and moved on to the....

For the cilantro and lime rice I used this recipe. I followed this one exactly and while the rice was cooking, I blended everything in a small processor. It had so much great flavor, required only a handful of ingredients and little hands on time. All the necessary elements for weeknight cooking.

There you have it. An awesome week night meal in one hour. Except...

if you're a dessert lover like me, you know that no meal ends without dessert. Enter Mexican Caramel Sundaes... the best thing to ever happen to me since...

For this recipe and many more, please visit me at Simply Irresistible. Thanks so much for having me Viviana!

Ok, so now I'm starving.

Thanks so much for stopping by Lara!
And if you hadn't discovered this wonderful blog yet then I invite you to visit it ASAP. You will love it!

Birthday Recap

What a great 28th birthday I had! Pre-birthday pastries with K, cake at work, happy hour with the girls at the Jimmy Bar, and a relaxing end of the night at home with K. I also received a few gifts that I'm ecstatic about: a Bond no. 9 fragrance from C, a killer pair of leopard pumps from mommy, some pretty makeup from me to me, AND my very own Canon G-12 Power-Shot digital camera from K!!!! I'm the luckiest girl in the world and can't thank you all enough for all the sweet birthday messages.

Bond no. 9 High Line fragrance, Canon G-12 Digital Camera, KORS Michael Kors Cheetah Pump

And if you haven't been to the Jimmy Bar at the James Hotel in SoHo then you're seriously missing out. The views of the city are amazing, the cocktails are delish, and the ambiance is perfect for a fun night out in the city. I highly recommend it!
