Weekend Recap: Miami

Our ladies weekend in Miami was fabulous. Sun, girl time, shopping, mojitos, delicious meals, and lots of people watching were involved. All seven of us arrived on Friday just in time for a tasty dinner at De Rodriguez followed by drinks and dancing at The Clevelander. Saturday was spent at the beach, touring South Beach (fantastic people watching scene!), having pre dinner cocktails at the Soho Beach House (one of my favorite spots in Miami), dinner at The Forge, and after dinner cocktails at the Fontainebleau and W Hotel. We were all pretty exhausted by Sunday so we had a late breakfast and spent the afternoon in the pool, sipping on mimosas before heading to dinner at River Oyster Bar (highly recommended) in Brickell. Now I'm suffering from serious lack of sleep and missing my girls like crazy (I SO wish I had taken more pictures!) Is it the weekend yet?

Can you find Waldo in the picture?
1. Me and L at De Rodriguez. 2. S and M at The Forge.
1. South Beach on Saturday. 2. M and V at the W. 3. S and I at our hotel bar. 4. One delicious mojito!
1. View of Biscayne Bay. 2. S, K, and I at our hotel bar.
Obsessed with the beautiful ceiling at the restaurant of Soho Beach House!
And today I'm also over at The White Ruffle sharing one of my favorite looks for Spring so make sure to stop by Madison's fabulous blog!

Floral Picks {Guest Post} Carly of a simple affair

This lady needs no introduction. Carly from a simple affair is taking the blogosphere by storm with her funny rhetoric, fabulous style, and sweetness. Seriously, if you haven't visited a simple affair yet then I suggest you do so asap. You.will.not.regret.it. Take it away, Carly...
Why hello lovely FT readers! It's Carly from a simple affair again.  The last time I was here I was chatting up a storm about my love for pastels.  I had to include a gorgeous Topshop floral scarf at the end of that post as I do really love the floral trend that we are seeing everywhere.  That being said, this girl just isn't feeling so comfortable with the idea of floral print covering my legs.  I prefer to stick to black skinny jeans or my lululemon leggings.  I'm more of a party on the top not the bottom type of dresser if you know what I mean.

I firmly believe you should feel great and confident in what you're wearing.  Don't force a trend upon yourself if you are not comfortable with it.  So while I LOVE the floral pant look on other ladies, I just won't feel confident walking out the door.  I much prefer a pop of floral.  These flats will do just the trick, not to mention they are both under $70. Badda bing, badda boom.  I have always wanted to say that in a blog post.

Lucky Brand Emmie 2 in Blurry Floral $59 //  Nine West Taker in Natural/Multi Fabric $63

Which pair do you like best and have you sported any floral pants/crops/dresses lately? Do tell!

Other ways to add a pop of floral to your outfits:

Thanks so much for having me today, Viv! Have a flor-tastic day! Ya, I went there...embrace it!

xoxo Carly
I'm on my way back from Miami today, but I promise a good weekend recap of our fun in the sun first thing tomorrow!

Weekend Wear: Miami

My college girlfriends and I try to plan a mini reunion vacation weekend every year to catch up, chit chat, and reminisce our college days. This year we chose to go to Miami to sip mojitos and soak in the sun while doing all these things (And we leave in a few hours! Warm weather, here we come!). Going back to the point of this post...Packing for warm weather should be easy for me since I was born and raised in the warm tropics of Puerto Rico. But no, it's not easy. Never is when it comes to me and packing. To make the packing process somewhat easier I write countless lists of things to bring, outfits for each day/night and try to organize myself as much as possible before starting to take things out of the closet. We'll have two solid days of beach time (and some shopping) and three nights of cocktails, dinner and dancing (reservations have been made at De Rodriguez, The Forge, and River Oyster Bar). Here are some of the essentials I'll be bringing for our girl's weekend in Miami.
Mini cocktail dress, $368, Wildfox Couture oversized sweater, €129, Cotton shirt, $56, Diesel t shirt, £65, All Saints leather biker jacket, $495, Long maxi skirt, £132, H&M short jean shorts, £15, Zimmermann bikini swimwear, £74, COACH platform heels, $198, Diane von Fürstenberg flat leather sandals, $200, Nine west handbag, $69, Kate spade necklace, $148, Melinda Maria rose gold ring, $68, Wet Seal straw fedora, $11, Karen walker sunglasses, $180, Clarins Sunscreen Soothing Cream SPF 20, $38, Clarins Sun Control Stick SPF 30, $26, Bayswater iPad Sleeve Chocolate Natural Leather, $420

Etsy Favorite: Designs by Mehru and a Giveaway!

Welcome back to Etsy Favorite Thursdays! My personal favorite search word on Etsy is "jewelry" and I always get giddy and giggly when I find a shop with exactly what I was looking for. A few weeks ago I was browsing the Etsy world in search of a unique, stunning silver ring. Guess what? I found it at Designs by Mehru's shop. She (the ring) was perfect, delicate, and affordable. Score one for me. Now, let's get to know Mehru a little better...

1- When did you open your store and where are you based (country, city)?
I opened up Designs by Mehru fall of 2010, after moving back home from Italy, where I studied jewelry design. I live in a small town called Datca (south of Turkey). I design and make my jewelry from my home studio.

2- What inspired you to open a store and start designing jewelry?
I've been interested in various kinds of arts such as fine-art, photography since I was 14. Finally, I decided that I wanted to design and make jewelry and I went to Florence, Italy to study this specifically. For almost 6 years now I have been designing and making one of a kind jewelry. I'm also really interested in Ancient Roman designs (jewelry and architecture) and Turkish decorative arts (jewelry, ornaments and architecture) so I try to derive inspiration from these sources.

Mehru has generously offered to give away the beautiful silver copper ring (first image and valued at $60) to one lucky reader! To enter please do the following and leave a separate comment for each (up to 5 entries):
1. Follow Fashion Truffles on Twitter
2. Like Fashion Truffles on Facebook
3. Like Designs by Mehru on Facebook
4. Follow Designs by Mehru on Twitter
5. Tweet about the giveaway

A winner will be announced next Thursday, March 1st, at noon! Good luck, luvies!

A Little Neon: First Outfit Post!

Ok, I'm clearly new at this whole outfit post deal. I felt a bit uncomfortable with the neighbors walking by and staring at K and I wondering why we were taking pictures of me by my lonesome. But ok, we got over the weirdness and K finally took three somewhat decent shots (please excuse my awkward posing, the light reflection in the background, and the fact that the shoes aren't really showing.) We most certainly need more practice, but here we go... my first outfit post!
Wearing: Theory sweater, David Lerner leggings, DVF boots (old), Madewell necklace (old), Ippolita, Hermes,  By Boe bangles.

Thoughts or advise? I need some good pointers to look a little less nervous/awkward.

At Home in the West Village

I'm sure all of you know Nanette Lepore and her designs. Well, today you'll get to take a peek into her unbelievable West Village townhouse. The space was designed by Jonathan Adler and contains what I consider the perfect balance between contemporary and mid-century style, splashed with a bit of boho-chic. It's true perfection in the middle of the West Village.
A portrait of Eva Peron (a flea market find!) hangs over the fireplace in the living room.
Louis XVI-style chairs surround the vintage dining table.
Note: Fabulous vintage sconces in the master bedroom.
And who can afford to have a private garden in the WV? Nanette. The table was designed by Adler.
 Swooning over this vintage cabinet.
Even the toy poodle looks like decoration!
Wall hanging is by Matthew Williamson for the Rug Company.

Lepore herself in the entrance hall. The console is covered in silvered ostrich leather (not too shabby.)

Those of you who follow me on Twitter already know that my flight to Chicago on Friday was cancelled due to the snow storm that hit the windy city. UGH. Thankfully, my bro and sis in law were in NYC for the weekend so I got to dress up for two nice dinners (Centrico on Friday and Bond St on Saturday), had a nice spa day with M, and did a little shopping. Yay for having an awesome sis to hang out with ;)

I plan on making our first Valentine's Day as a married couple a very special one. In the past we've always gone out for a special dinner, but this year I want to whip up a delicious meal for my hubby and serve it in this pretty heart bowl. What are your plans for V-day?

Have a fantastic weekend, luvies!

Etsy Favorite: Olive Yew and a Giveaway!

Thursday has become my day to share with you my latest Etsy obsessions. This week I want to introduce you all to Angela Parker-Kennedy, the mastermind and designer behind Olive Yew. Angela prides herself in creating petite gold and silver pieces that are gorgeous and delicate. In order for you guys to get to know Angela and her work a little better, I asked her a few questions:
1. What inspired you to start designing jewelry?
It was simple for me, I wasn't happy doing what I was doing for a living - so I made a
decision to create a job with the skills I already had. I didn't know at the time it would be making jewelry. I just knew that I had marketing skills, a design background, an education in sculpture and the drive to get out of corporate America.

2. When did you start designing?
I've made stuff (as I prefer to call it), since I was 8 years old, but I just started making jewelry last March. I was a graphic/web designer, illustrator and creative director or a span of about 15 years. I found I could be very good at something if I loved it-like children's publishing. But I really didn't like corporate culture, and I fell out of love with design. That was kinda heartbreaking for me. I just didn't know what to do with myself, so I took a little time to really think about what I wanted to do, and look at my existing set of skills.
I knew I had to do something creative and I had experience in marketing and design. Why waste it? I majored in art with a concentration in fibers and sculpture, but I was always more comfortable working on a very small scale. I thought back to that often - jewelry made sense. I've also had a hard time finding jewelry simple enough for my taste, so I started there. Petite, simple jewelry.

3. Where do you find your inspiration?
I find it everywhere. It's funny how I notice what everyone is wearing no matter where I am or what I'm watching. Some days I'm "on" creatively, and other days I'm swamped with the day to day side of running this business. When I'm in a creative spell, ideas just come to me - I can't get them out fast enough sometimes, and I can't say I know exactly where that comes from. Creativity has always been like that for me, it just comes sometimes and I have no choice but to make something...anything, just to get it out. When If I'm not creatively inspired, there's always marketing to do...which I also thoroughly enjoy.

4. Name a few of your favorite jewelry designers.
I struggled with this question for days because I honestly don't have favorite jewelry designers. I don't know who I like and who I don't like because I don't specifically pay attention to other designers. I never wore much jewelry because I never found anything that was simple enough for me, and I'm very, very picky. So I decided to make what I do like - and I did.

Now, for some exciting news! Angela has offered to give away the Lucky Rose Gold Horseshoe necklace to one lucky reader. I know, amazing! To enter please do one or all of the following (up to 6 entries):
1. Visit Olive Yew and leave a comment telling me which one is your favorite piece
2. Follow Fashion Truffles publicly via GFC
3. Like Fashion Truffles on Facebook
4. Favorite Olive Yew on Etsy
5. Like Olive Yew on Facebook

A Malibu Dream

I stumbled across pictures of Courtney Cox's Malibu retreat renovated by architect Michael Kovak and designed by Trip Haenisch and fell in LOVE - deep love. A simple, clean aesthetic, mid century structure, neutral tones, and unbelievable views of the Pacific Ocean make this my dream abode. The two acres of land include guest cottages, a tennis house and court, a screening room, and a salt water pool.

Note: The TV is mounted into the flagstone fireplace.
The vintage bar stools add the perfect touch of rustic to a modern kitchen. The light fixture is from Nessen Lighting.
Note: The view is simply stunning.

 This throw. No words.
Note: The artwork was done by Cox's father while he was in high school.
Custom made head- and foot boards are zinc.
 Kitchen in the screening house.
Custom made pool table and painting by Arsen Roje.
French doors open up to the pool area and views of the Pacific Ocean. Dreamy.
The pool overlooking the Pacific Ocean is filled with salt water.
