What to Wear: Date Night

I'm not the biggest fan of movie theaters - I find it more cozy and comfy to cuddle up in my couch with K and watch the movie at home - but in some rare occasion, like this past Saturday, a movie will come out that I need to go see as soon as it hits theaters. Enter The Hunger Games. I devoured the trilogy in less than a week and watched the trailer for the movie more times than I care to admit. So on Saturday, when I logged on to fandango online and saw that there were tickets available for a 6pm showing, I bought them without hesitation and K and I made it a date night. We stood in line for a while waiting to go in to the theater, watched intently as Katniss battled on, and followed the movie with a delicious Mediterranean meal at Kefi. So, this post is dedicated to the date night outfits. The date nights that are not fancy. The ones that are casual, low-key and planned in the spur of the moment.

Travel Truffle: Spain

I was lucky enough to have studied abroad n Spain for 6 months during my junior year in college. After spending Winter break at home in Puerto Rico, I went back to DC to pack my bags and head to Sevilla, Spain. Sevilla is one of the largest cities in Spain, located in the southern region of Andalucia. Sevilla is absolutely magical. The winding streets, the history, the cafes, the croquetas... everything about is marvelous. I dream of going back to Spain and exploring all those places  that were home to me for half of a year. In the meantime, I leave you with images of one of the cities I will be exploring on my next tour to Spain - Hotel Viura in Villabuena de Alava.

This ultra-modern hotel, designed by Spanish architects Designhouses, is located at the heart of an old, traditional village. The hotel architecture is truly unique - a series of cubes, one on top of the other, that seem to rise out of the ground.

It's amazing how the modern and old are combined so perfectly in this small boutique hotel in the middle of a country I love.

In the Kitchen: Crockpot BBQ Chicken

The weekend was perfect. K and I spent some serious quality time together after a very hectic week. We had two date nights - Friday night dinner at L'Artusi and Saturday night at the movies (The Hunger Games!) and Kefi in the UWS. Sunday came around sooner than we wanted (as always) so we spent the day catching up with loved ones, studying, cleaning, and cooking. And now, without further ado, my first recipe post!

I don't know about you, but I'm a big fan of BBQ anything. As soon as I found this recipe (via Pinterest) I fell in love - foodie love. And the recipe did not disappoint! (The only slight change I made was that I uncovered the chicken after 4.5 hours so that the sauce would thicken.) This BBQ chicken was easy to make, required very few ingredients, and was absolutely delicious! I made BBQ chicken sandwiches and served them with a simple salad and some baked sweet potato fries. Serious YUM!
p.s. Do you have any good crockpot recipes you'd like to share with me?!
p.p.s. Have you entered the Pom Flair giveaway? Only 3 days left!

Etsy Favorite: Pom Flair and a Giveaway!

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to win a beautiful and fun tassel garland from Pom Flair (thanks for hosting the giveaway, Lara!) This shop is dedicated to creating fun and beautifully crafted partyware made out of 100% recycled materials. How awesome is that?! My tassel garland is right now decorating my somewhat boring office and I love it! It seriously brings some color and happy to the space. And now, I want to introduce you to Carmen, the young lady behind these pretty creations.

1. Name, Age, Business Name-
My name is Carmen Taylor, I'm 26 and my business name is Pom Flair. Although I'm in the process of re-branding and re-naming so that I may offer a wider array of handmade party decor.
2. When did you start your store and what inspired you to do so?
I opened my Etsy shop in 2010. I had just relocated to a city to be closer to my love, at the time he was finishing graduate school and I found myself painfully bored in the evenings. I started entertaining more at our home and guests that attended the events adored these tissue paper creations. They later encouraged me to try and sell the items on Etsy. Until this suggestion I had only browsed Etsy, I never really considered my ability to offer items for consumers. I've now branched out to a self hosted shop on my website too.
3. Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration in all sorts of places. While I'm not personally really into fashion, I like to pull colorways from trendy ensembles I may see online or in a magazine. As for the function of tissue paper, I'm constantly trying to adapt it in new forms to create dynamic party decor.

Fabulous, right? And to make it better, Carmen is offering one lucky reader a beautiful tassel garland of their choice! That's right, you even get to pick your colors! To enter the giveaway please do the following (leave a separate comment for each):
1. Follow Pom Flair on Facebook
2. Follow Fashion Truffles via GFC
3. Pin a tassel garland from Pom Flair
4. Follow Fashion Truffles on Facebook
A winner will be chosen at random next Thursday, March 29th. Good luck, luvies!

Wedge Crazy

Wedges are a classic spring and summer piece. My shoe closet is seriously packed and wedges are one of the most prominent styles in it. Wedges are versatile and SO comfortable! I honestly believe they are as classic as pumps - every gal should own at least one pair. I've been swooning over a few Tory Burch pairs and my latest wedge obsession are these Proenza Schouler ones... dreamy

Brunching and An Easy Outfit

One of my favorite things to do on any given weekend is go to brunch. Our neighborhood (the West Village) has SO many amazing brunch spots that it's hard to choose to go somewhere further away. The weather this weekend was absolute perfection so I decided to head out for brunch on both Saturday and Sunday (yay!). Saturday K and I went to Elephant and Castle and on Sunday M, A, and I went to Tremont.

Sunday Afternoon Craving: Toms

These pretties are perfect for summer. I love the color, the striped pattern, the comfort, AND the price. Oh! And you know the deal - one for one - for every pair you buy Toms will donate a pair to a child in need. Doesn't get much better than that.

Getaway Recap: Aruba

It goes by too quickly... every time. Vacation that is. Don't you agree? We were there for 5 days and 5 nights, but it felt like 2 days and 1 night. Seriously. Aruba never disappoints. Have you seen those ads on TV describing the island as "One Happy Island"? They speak the truth. People are so incredibly hospitable, the food is delish and so fresh, the calm ocean is perfect, the breeze cools down even the hottest of days... it all adds up to the perfect getaway. We go with K's family every single year and it never gets old. This year we ate at some of our favorites (Madame Janette, Smokey Joe's, and Yemanja), paid a visit to the spa for a much needed couple's massage, spent some time (a bit too much time!) in the casino playing blackjack, and laid out under the Aruban sun every day. Here's a few pictures that I felt sum up our trip perfectly.
Outfits: (1) Dress: Pencey from The Edit, Wedges: Steve Madden, Clutch: LV, (2) Dress: Tibi, (3) Dress: BCBG, Clutch: LV, Shoes: Belle by Sigerson Morrison, Earrings: Design Darling, Necklace: Vintage, (4) Dress: DVF, (5) Top: The Edit, Jeans: MiH, Wedges: Steve Madden, Necklace: Paul Smith.

All In The Geometry

Geometry wasn't my best subject in school. I was really good at every other math subject, just not geometry. However, I can make up my lack of interest in the mathematical subject with my slight obsession in geometrical designs. Yes, geometry is everywhere these days. Jewelry, shoes, handbags, dresses... everywhere! I'm particularly obsessed with the Missoni dress you're about to see...

ISSA London sleeveless dress, £705, Diane von Furstenberg silk shift dress, £150, Knit shirt, £195, Topshop lace top, $52
Alexander Wang knit shorts, $245, Vince Camuto silver shoes, $150, Rebecca Minkoff vintage style handbag, $695, Marni shopping bag, $525, Hive Honey geometric necklace, $34, Oscar de la Renta 24k earrings, $185, Dannijo cord necklace, £185, Forever 21 bangles jewelry, $8.80, Emilio Pucci silk chiffon scarve, £265, Balenciaga vintage shades, $375
Are you obsessing over the "fun" kind of geometry?

Outfit Choices and A Few Extras: Aruba

Happy Friday, luvies! I'm en route to Aruba today (aaah!) and I wanted to share two outfits that are coming with me to the Caribbean. Please excuse the poor quality of the pictures! I did this in a rush (eek!)
Dress: BCBG, Wedges: Jean Michel Cazabat, Clutch: LV, Necklace: Vintage gift from Mami.
I'm also thinking I'll add a cute jean jacket if it's chilly (I always get a bit cold at night after a full day under the sun...)
Shirt: Ladakh from The Edit, Lace Shorts: Free People, Wedges: Jean Michel Cazabat, Clutch: LV, Necklace: The Pound from The Edit.
I'm especially excited about this outfit! The shirt is seriously the softest denim you have ever felt and the lace shorts have been hiding in my closet for a month waiting for this trip.
And then, of course, there's a few additional items that will make it down there with me!

Also, I'm over at Young Sophisticates today with my second post as a contributor! I love that word, contributor. Yes, I'm a contributor. Anyway, run over to YS and check out my take on coffee table arrangements.
Have a lovely weekend!

Current Obsession: Damen and Division AND a Giveaway!

I have found a new love. Damen and Division is a Chicago-based line of unique, handmade jewelry pieces designed and created by Sonia Barrett Esler. The insanely gorgeous (insanely gorgeous!) necklaces, earrings, and bracelets have touches of vintage, chic, bohemian, and modern. And I don't use the term insanely gorgeous losely. Oh, and to make it better - Damen and Division is launching a Build-Your-Own earring bar where you'll be able to make all your earring dreams come true (see more on this in question 5). Now, let's introduce you to this uber talented gal...

1. Name, Company Name, Age.
Sonia Barrett Esler, Damen + Division Jewelry, 32

When did you start designing jewelry? What sparked your interest in this field?
I started designing in 2008. I had this idea to make bib necklaces, which were all the rage back then, and other big fabric necklaces. I was always interested in art, as well as statement jewelry. Combining the two seemed pretty natural. When I was younger I did a lot of thrifting, so I've always had an affinity for vintage discoveries.

How did the transition from photography to jewelry design occur?
I still do the photography, so I don't know if it is a transition as much as a nice addition I am loving! It's all visual problem solving, whether it's photography or jewelry making, so it is all the same to me. Similarly, I also draw and decorate.

Where do you find inspiration for your pieces?
I am inspired by the vintage stock I come across: I see a chain or an earring finding, and I figure out how to balance it out with new materials like crystal or turquoise. I am inspired by shape and color. I will see a color story of an outfit or a room or a piece of art and I will try to complement that. I try to incorporate trends to make it contemporary, and I try to think about what sort of events and places Damen + Division can be worn.

5. Where is your jewelry sold?

Currently we are celebrating the launch of a virtual Build-Your-Own Earring Bar at  www.damen-division.com (great for bridesmaids)! Customers can always contact me via the website or Facebook if they see something they like and want to do a custom piece.
I am also available at SARCA 710 N. Wabash Ave., Chicago, IL
and GAVIN 1939 Central St., Evanston, IL

Sonia has generously offered to give away the Honeymoon Necklace ($200 value) to one lucky reader!! (do you think I can enter my own giveaway?!) To enter please do one or all of the following (leave a separate comment for each) for up to 5 entries:
1. Like Damen and Division on Facebook
2. Check out D+D's Facebook albums and leave a comment telling me which is your favorite piece
3. Follow Fashion Truffles via GFC
4. Like Fashion Truffles on Facebook
5. Tweet about the giveaway (make sure to mention @viv_fashiontruf)
The winner will be announced next Thursday, March 15th! GOOD LUCK, luvies!

Recently Purchased: Mara Hoffman

I'm not one to spend a lot of money on swimwear. I love pretty bikinis, but I usually wait for a good sale to buy the one I want. Enter theoutnet.com, the most fabulous online fashion warehouse EVER. I just found a Mara Hoffman beauty for a fraction of what it's selling for on many other websites and boutiques. Best part - it fits like a glove! The ruffle is my absolute favorite part.
