Luxe for Less

One of my favorite things to do, other than shopping, is traveling. However, traveling is not an inexpensive thing to like or do so I'm always trying to figure out different ways of saving money while still having a fantastic time and exploring a new city or country. Let's just call this post my luxe for less guide to traveling. Of course, there will always be certain experiences, activities, meals, and items that are worth the big splurge but I try to keep those at a minimum when planning a trip.

Everyone has different preferences when it comes to choosing where or what to splurge on and those personal preferences are important when planning a trip. Personally, I would rather have a nice meal at a fantastic restaurant than spend the money on a 300 sq ft five star hotel room, especially when it's a destination where I know I'll be spending most of my time out. The Accountant that lives within me also likes to make an appearance when it comes to making reservations, booking airfare, and planning activities. I like to always keep a budget and set a spending limit before going on vacation. Budgeting always helps me settle on what I want to do while I'm away and what other things I should put on hold. There really are so many ways to save some money while still experiencing the luxury of traveling and enjoying the things that make you smile. There's no right or wrong way to choose what to save on and what to splurge on but it's all about the balancing act. You spent a lot at dinner? Then maybe walk back to your hotel and save some cash by not taking a cab. Traveling to an expensive destination? Sign up for a credit card deal that will offer you miles just for signing up and save money by booking your airfare with points. Always check Gilt City and Groupon offers. Do your research and find out recommendations for restaurants the locals like, not the tourist traps that sometimes cost an arm and a leg. Luxury doesn't necessarily have to be a synonym to expensive and that's the real beauty of it.
