Halloween will be very special this year because we get to celebrate the holiday with our new little munchkin. I remember loving Halloween as a little kid and getting so incredibly excited about picking out a costume at the store – after brainstorming about the perfect one for days or even weeks, of course. Now I can’t wait to do the same with Ali! A few weeks ago we took a trip to Target to pick out Ali’s teeny-tiny disfraz (translation: costume) and I had a blast walking though the aisles and going crazy with all the fun Halloween decorations and great costume options in stock. As a result of the overwhelming amount of costumes available, Ali walked out of the store with not one but two disfraces, and now they are all ready for her and for a little trick-or-treating adventure in Washington, D.C., where we’ll be for the weekend.
I can’t wait until I can share my excitement for Halloween with her and she gets to pick out her own disfraz from Target, carve her own pumpkin and help me decorate our home. In the coming years and as she grows older I’ll be teaching her all the Spanish songs I used to sing while knocking on doors around the neighborhood. In the meantime, we’ll stick to Mommy and Daddy singing for her and making sure we get lots of dulce, no mani! (translation: candy, no peanuts!) which is what I used to yell out while trick-or-treating as a little girl. I’m looking forward to creating many new Halloween traditions and, of course, taking lots and lots of pictures that we will cherish for many years to come.
