Baby Ali is growing up... fast! She turns six months this week and Kenny and I have been talking about how much she's grown and changed, especially in the last two months. This girl has a spunky personality, smiles and giggles all the time, wants to be on the go non-stop, loves to watch older kids playing, is teething like a maniac and has developed a serious affinity to grandma's applesauce and carrots. Ali is enrolled in a million activities and classes -- she has a busier schedule than both Kenny and I! -- and she just loves to be outdoors.
We're so lucky and thankful to have found an incredibly caring and loving nanny whom Ali loves and we trust. Some days it's hard to find the "right" balance of work, mommy, and wife life but some other days it just happens naturally. I still try to cook every night, even if it's just a simple pasta with salad and I find that those 15-30 minutes of dinner and TV time with Kenny give us the sort of downtime we crave. Ali has been sleeping through the night for some time now and she's usually in bed by 7:45-8pm. Kenny and I made a point of starting her bedtime routine at 7:30pm, even when she was a newborn, just so we could both have some time with her when we get home from work.
The weekends are dedicated to Ali but we try to schedule activities that we will all enjoy. We plan playdates with other kids and some of our friends, we try to go out for dinner or brunch to some of our favorite, kid friendly restaurants in the neighborhood and, starting in February, we'll be taking her to swim class on Saturdays.
Our lives have changed dramatically and the things we used to do and love now seem like things of the past and a bit foreign. Motherhood is incredibly rewarding, especially when Ali wants to cuddle and smiles wide at me when she sees me coming from across the room, but it's also hard and challenging. It took some time to catch up with the reality of having a baby but we have found our new groove and can honestly say we love it.
Here's a list of the toys, classes and other miscellaneous things Ali is loving these days:
Story Time (at all NYC public libraries)
Good Night, Ali (personalized book)
Apple and Pear Sauce
Butternut Squash and Sweet Potatoes Mash
